Matthew Phelan, Chef/Owner
Matthew is a long-time Ohio resident, having grown up in Dublin and attended Bishop Watterson High School. He then went on to further his education and received his Bachelor's from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York.
Upon graduation, he worked in New York City for several years under some incredible chefs.
In Summer of 2018, he decided to move back to Columbus to pursue his dream of opening his own restaurant in his home town and Novella Osteria came to life in 2020.

Outside the kitchen, Matt is a devoted husband and father. He and his wife, Jess are raising two wonderful kids Jojo & Alma. They inspire him daily and remind him of the importance of family, good food, and gathering around the table. Whether he's developing a new recipe for the menu or cooking Sunday dinner at home, Matt's love for food is always centered on bringing people together.
